BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Queens University of Charlotte men's and women's track and field teams completed competition this afternoon on the final day of the NCAA DII Indoor Track and Field Championships. Seb Anthony would highlight the day for the Royals setting a new program record in the 800-meter run and earning All-American honors.
 
Anthony finished the 800-meter run in second place with a time of 1:48.74. His time is a new school record, and it is the first sub 1:49 performance in school history. Dennis Mbuta of Grand Valley State just beat out Anthony for the title clocking in at 1:48.62.
 
"Seb ran one of the greatest races in DII history today," Queens director of cross country and track and field Jim Vahrenkamp commented. "He just missed capturing the national title by becoming the eighth fastest performer in DII history. I could not be more pleased with his achievements."
 
Jan Lukas Becker also raced today in his second event of the meet. The sophomore finished ninth overall in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:07.95.
 
As a team, the men finished the meet in 18^th place with 13 points.
 
"Coach Scott had his group ready to compete this weekend," Vahrenkamp added. "Coach McBride also had Martin ready to go when it mattered. We finished the meet ranked 18^th. Put into perspective, there are almost 300 men's track programs in the United States.
 
It's awesome to see the program continue to progress across the board as we now turn our attention to the outdoor season."
 
Queens will begin its outdoor season at the Charlotte 49er Classic scheduled for March 19-20.
