CHARLOTTE, N.C.– With the 2026 NCAA DI Outdoor Track and Field Championships just around the corner, three members of the Queens University of Charlotte men's and women's track and field programs are set to make history as the first Royals to compete in the East First Round, taking place at the University of Kentucky from May 27-30.
Vesna Kljajevic will represent the women in the shot put, while Jakob Nützel and
Petar Canak will represent the men in the discus throw and long jump, respectively.
Kljajevic enters the Championships after winning gold in the shot put at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship. Her 15.57-meter throw set a new school record for the sophomore. The mark is ranked 42
nd in the region.
Canak earned bronze in the long jump at the ASUN Championships after recording a jump of 7.53 meters. The new personal record for the senior sits 47
th in the region.
Nützel won gold in the discus throw for the second straight year at the ASUN Championships with a mark of 56.82 meters. It was his best throw of the season, and the mark sits 29
th in the region. The senior holds the school record in the event, 57.69 meters.
