CHARLOTTE, N.C. – On day two of the 2021 Kellianne Nagy Fall Frenzy, the Queens University of Charlotte men's and women's swimming teams won nine events at Mecklenburg Aquatic Center on Saturday evening. Following a sweep of events on Friday, the Royals dominated the water again earning potential bids to the NCAA Championships in the spring.
The day opened with the Royals taking the top spot in eight of the ten events. The prelims were highlighted by
Cece Mayer making the A Cut in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.34 which automatically qualified her for the NCAA Championships. The women took first in the 400-yard IM as
Tova Andersson paced herself with a time of 4:25.53.
Monica Gumina made the B Cut in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.79 and
Vladyslava Maznytska made B Cut in the 100-yard backstroke. The men took the top spot in the 400-yard IM, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, and 100-yard backstroke as each swimmer topped the board with a B Cut time.
The Royals relay units were outstanding again as the Queens men took the 200-yard medley relay and 800-yard freestyle relay with B cut time standards. Despite the B cut time in the 800-yard freestyle relay,
Balazs Berecz,
Skyler Cook-Weeks,
Luke Erwee, and
Alex Kunert shattered the previous event record by six seconds with a time of 6:28.66. In the 800-yard freestyle relay for the women,
Tova Andersson,
Giulia Grasso,
Monica Gumina, and
Anna De Boer put together a time of 7:23.05.
Both squads shined in the individual races as the women took three top spots.
Cece Mayer and
Kayla Tennant placed first and second respectively with B cut times in the 100-yard butterfly while
Tova Andersson took the reign in the 400-yard IM. In the 200-yard freestyle, the Royals took the top three spots with
Monica Gumina,
Giulia Grasso, and
Anna De Boer finishing in order. Gumina posted a B cut time and event record with a 1:48.01 final time.
In the men's heats, the Royals dominated the 400-yard IM, 100-yard butterfly, and 200-yard freestyle. In the 400-yard IM,
Jan Delkeskamp secured his spot in the NCAA Championship with a time of 3:48.60.
Yannick Plasil and
Andreas Marz both posted B cut times and finished second and third in the event.
Matej Dusa,
David Hjort, and
Conner Wang earned B cut times and the top three spots in the 100-yard butterfly.
Alex Kunert and
Skyler Cook-Weeks concluded the men's side with a first and second place finish in the 200-yard freestyle.
