CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The 13
th-ranked Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team will face No. 6 UIndy on Wednesday, May 8 in the opening round of the 2019 NCAA DII Men's Lacrosse Championship in Indianapolis.
The Royals currently have a 13-4 record and were seeded sixth in the South Region after completing the regular season tied for second in South Atlantic Conference play with a 6-2 conference record. They moved up to 13
th in the USILA Poll this week after advancing to the SAC Championship title game where they fell to No. 10 Wingate.
Queens is led by
Kealan Pilon who has 57 points this season on 33 goals and 24 assists.
Quinn Tallant follows with 44 points on 38 goals and six assist. Additionally,
Laszlo Henning has 31 points on 19 goals and 12 assists. In the circle,
Drew Flack has won 207-of-328 face-offs for a .631 face-off winning percentage. Additionally, goalkeepers
Anthony Valenza and
Kyle Hornik combine for a .560 save percentage.
The Greyhounds have a 14-2 overall record and were seeded third in the South Region after completing the regular season undefeated at 6-0 in league play. They went on to win the GLVC Championship, defeating No. 16 Rockhurst in the title game.
UIndy is led by Parker Kump who has 54 goals and 19 assists for 73 points this season. Drew Billig (29g, 17a) and Matthew Johnson (27g, 19a) follow with 46 points each while Parker Johnson has 37 points on 23 goals and 14 assists. Robbie Berardi has won 226-of-337 face-offs this season for a .671 face-off winning percentage while Jarod Kimble has a save percentage of .495 in the cage.
This is the Royals' second appearance in the NCAA Championships while the Greyhounds are making their first-ever appearance.
Wednesday's game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. in Key Stadium on the campus of UIndy. The winner will advance to face second-seeded Belmont Abbey in the quarterfinals on Saturday, May 11 at noon at Belmont Abbey.
Fifth-seeded Wingate will travel to face fourth-seeded Tampa on Wednesday in the opening round. The winner will advance to face the South Region's top-seed, Limestone, in the quarterfinals. The winners of the quarterfinals will move on to the semifinals on Sunday, May 19. This year's finalists will advance to Philadelphia, Pa., for the championship game at Lincoln Financial Field, which will be played at 1 p.m. Eastern time, Sunday, May 26, and shown via web stream on NCAA.com.
