ALLENDALE, Mich. – The 10
th-ranked Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team will face No. 5 West Chester University in the semifinal round of the NCAA DII Women's Lacrosse Championship on Friday, May 17 in Allendale, Michigan on the campus of Grand Valley State University. The Royals enter the game having reached the final four for the first time in program history while the Golden Rams will be looking to make it to the championship game for a ninth time.
Queens will go into Friday's game with a 19-2 record and as the No. 2 seed after defeating top-ranked Tampa in the South Region's opening round before knocking off Rollins in the quarterfinals. The Royals were seeded fourth in the South Region.
Leading the charge for Queens is South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year
Ally Blood with 97 points on 46 goals and 51 assists. Queens all-time leading scorer
Hanna Scott has 89 points on 47 goals and 42 assists while
Kara Blanchard has 78 points on 53 goals and 25 assists.
Rachel Perrett has 72 points on 53 goals and 19 assists and
Katie Wardle has 68 points on 55 goals and 13 assists. Four others have 25-plus points on the year.
Defensively, the Royals rank 29th in the nation in caused turnovers per game averaging 10.38 on each outing.
Cammy Case leads the Royals with 35 this season. She is six caused turnovers away from breaking the school record. In goal, the Royals' save percentage of .524 ranks sixth nationally while
Chase Brokaw's save percentage ranks fourth.
West Chester was the top-seeded team in the Atlantic Region defeating Seton Hill in the opening round before topping East Stroudsburg in the quarterfinals. The Golden Rams earned the No. 3 seed in the final four, and they currently sit 19-2 on the year.
Sami Barnett leads the Gold Rams with 75 points this season on 58 goals and 17 assists. PSAC Player of the Year Maggie Stella has a total of 53 goals and 19 assists for 72 points. Tatum Altman has 71 points on 33 goals and 38 assists. Additionally, Tara Morrissey has 38 goals and 30 assists for 68 points while Ryan McKinney has 56 goals and 11 assists for 67 points.
West Chester ranks fifth in the nation in caused turnovers per game averaging 13.67. Leading the way is Molly Reinhart who has 48 this season while Drew McKinney has totaled 33. Brenna Lynch has 31 caused turnovers. In goal, Julianne Clemens has a .461 save percentage.
Queens and West Chester last met during the 2018 season with the Royals falling 13-12 at home to the Golden Rams. Wardle led the Royals with six points after totaling three goals and three assists. Scott added four goals and one assist while Conn recorded three goals. Defensively, Case led with six caused turnovers and seven ground balls.
Barnett led the Golden Rams with five goals and one assist while Altman added four goals. Stella totaled two goals.
Queens trails in the series with West Chester, 4-0.
Friday's semifinal game will be the second of the day with the first between top-seeded Regis and fourth-seeded Adelphi taking place at 11 a.m. Winners will advance to Sunday's championship game scheduled to be played at noon at the GVSU Lacrosse Field.
