No. 10 Queens Looks to Win 6th-Straight SAC Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C.  – The 10th-ranked and top-seeded Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team will take on second-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne University in the 2019 South Atlantic Conference Championship on Sunday, April 28 in Wingate, N.C. Both teams won their semifinal games to advance after having first-round byes.
 
Queens defeated fifth-seeded Wingate University on Friday by a score of 20-5 to earn a spot in their sixth consecutive Championship game. Katie Wardle and Hanna Scott led the Royals with seven points each. Wardle totaled four goals and three assists while Scott had three goals and four assists. Ally Blood added four goals and Kara Blanchard recorded a hat trick. In goal, Chase Brokaw totaled five saves for her 13th win of the year.
 
The Bears defeated third-seeded Lincoln Memorial University, 16-8, on Friday afternoon. Rachel Elmore led with six goals while Alyssa Sack had five goals and two assists for seven points. In goal, Teanna Sieben totaled eight saves in 41:52.
 
Elmore leads Lenoir-Rhyne this season with 62 points on 59 goals and three assists. Cathleen Gaffney has 21 goals and 38 assists for 59 points while Sack has 32 goals and 19 assists for 51 points.
 
Blood, the 2019 SAC Player of the Year, leads the Royals this season with 81 points on 38 goals and 43 assists. Scott has 36 goals and 38 assists for 74 points while Rachel Perrett has 48 goals and 15 assists for 63 points. Additionally, Wardle and Blanchard have 60 points each.
 
In goal will be a battle between two goalkeepers, Brokaw of Queens and Sieben of Lenoir-Rhyne, who rank first and second in the league in save percentage. Brokaw has a save percentage of .553 while Sieben's sits at .486.
 
Queens took the regular season game between the two teams by a score of 20-5 avenging the one SAC loss in program history that happened during the 2018 regular season.
 
Sunday's SAC Women's Lacrosse Championship is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at Graham Gill Field on the campus of Wingate. Live stats and video will be available.
