CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The 16
th-ranked Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team will face No. 20 Catawba College on Friday in the semifinal round of the 2019 South Atlantic Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship. Queens, seeded third, will enter the game ranked fifth in the NCAA DII Region rankings with an 11-3 overall record. The second-seeded Indians currently have a 9-5 overall record and received a first-round bye in the Championship.
Queens advanced to the semifinals after defeating the Tusculum Pioneers, 16-8, at home in the quarterfinals. In the game, the Royals used a 10-0 first-half run to take control of the game and never looked back.
Drew Flack,
Kevin Barry,
Laszlo Henning, and
Quinn Tallant, each recorded two goals to lead the Royals offensively.
Kealan Pilon totaled three points with one goal and two assists while
Jesse Oliver,
Justin Swick, and
Mack Tallant had two points each on one goal and one assist.
Pilon leads the Royals this season with 54 points on 31 goals and 23 assists.
Quinn Tallant has 41 points on 35 goals and six assists while Henning has 28 points on 17 goals and 11 assists. Flack has won 185-of-285 face-offs, second most in the SAC, for a .649 face-off win percentage.
The Indians are led by Joe Barber who has 19 goals and 27 assists for 46 points this season. Cole Fanzo has 41 goals and four assists for 45 points while Tony Bellotte has 36 goals and seven assists for 43 points.
Catawba took the regular season match between the two teams winning 13-12 over the Royals. The win awarded them the second seed in the Championship despite both teams finishing with a 6-2 league record.
