Box Score 2 ANDERSON, S.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte softball team (20-12, 8-8 SAC) dropped both games of a doubleheader to Anderson University (27-17, 9-7 SAC) on Saturday at the Anderson Softball Complex. The Royals lost game one, 3-0, and fell in game two, 6-0.
In game one,
Courtney Pearson (13-4) allowed just one earned run in a complete-game performance in the circle, but suffered the loss as she allowed just three hits and three walks, while striking out five in six innings.
The Trojans struck first with a run in the bottom of the first inning when Mattie Hamilton's sacrifice fly to right field scored Kasey Grant, putting Anderson up 1-0.
Anderson tacked on unearned runs in the third and fifth innings, to take a 3-0 lead, while Kayla Pepper (12-11) recorded a complete-game shutout allowing just five hits and one walk with eight strikeouts in seven innings to earn the win.
Queens squandered scoring chances in the fourth and fifth innings, stranding two runners on base in each frame. In total, the Royals left six runners on base while
Sydney Ditto led Queens offensively, going 2-for-3 with a double.
Game two played scoreless into the bottom of the fourth inning, when with the bases loaded and one out Breanna Hagerty singled to left-center field scoring Joshlyn Martin, giving Anderson a 1-0 edge. Moments later, Abigail Webb skied a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Hamilton and gave the Trojans a 2-0 lead.
Still up 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Anderson scored four more runs to extend its lead. Webb collected two more RBI on a single to right center that put the Trojans up 4-0. Meghan Majeski then singled to left field scoring Hagerty and giving Anderson a 5-0 lead. With runners at the corners, the Trojans took a 6-0 lead after Majeski stole second and Webb scored on a throwing error.
Anderson's Harlie Duncan (15-6) earned the win, recording a complete-game shutout while allowing just five hits and one walk in seven innings while striking out eight batters.
Queens'
Shannon McGuire suffered the loss (6-6) allowing two runs and a hit with three strikeouts and two walks in 4.2 innings.
Grace Valchar led Queens at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance, but the Royals stranded six runners on base.
The Royals return to action on Wednesday night versus Coker College in a doubleheader at Park Road Park. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 5 p.m.
