Queens Set to Host Catawba in SAC Quarterfinals

CHARLOTTE, N.C.  – The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team is preparing to host Catawba College on Tuesday, April 24 in the quarterfinal round of the South Atlantic Conference Championships. The Royals enter the Championships seeded fourth with a record of 8-6 (5-3) while the Indians are seeded fifth with a record of 6-8 (4-4). Queens leads the all-time series, 13-6.

Riding a six-game winning streak into their final game of the regular season, Queens fell 10-9 at Wingate University over the weekend. Kevin Barry led the Royals after scoring five goals to match his career high. Jesse Oliver added two goals while Reed Murphy and Quinn Tallant each tallied one goal and one assist. Anthony Valenza took the loss in goal after recording season-high 13 saves. A win would have given the Royals a No. 2 seed in the SAC Championships along with a first-round bye.

The Indians closed their regular season with a 14-10 win over Tusculum College. Dalton Cook and Cole Fanzo each recorded hat tricks in the win.

Queens defeated Catawba, 18-10, during the regular season. Murphy led Queens with three goals and three assists for a total of six points. Kealan Pilon followed with five points on two goals and three assists, and Oliver added two goals and two assists of his own. Justin Swick also recorded a hat trick.

Cook has 50 points after totaling 32 goals and 18 assists this season to lead Catawba. Joe Barber has 43 points on 25 goals and 18 assists. Fanzo has 36 points.

Swick leads Queens with 27 points this season after totaling 19 goals and eight assists. Murphy, Barry, and Pilon have 25 points each while Tallant has 23 points.

The Royals have made it out of the quarterfinal round and all the way to the championship finals for the past two seasons.

Tuesday's game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at the Queens Sports Complex. Live stats and video can be found on the Queens Sports Network.
