PITTSBURG, Pa. – For the first time in program history, both the Queens University of Charlotte men's and women's cross country teams have grabbed top 10 finishes at the same time at the NCAA DII Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships. The men finished 9
th after totaling 288 points while the women claimed 10
th place with 418 points.
For the men who entered the race ranked sixth nationally, it is the fourth top-10 finish in program history. The women, ranked 24
th, grabbed their third top-10 finish with their last coming in 2011.
"We couldn't be more proud of our squads today," said Queens head men's and women's cross country coach
Tom Scott. "For both the men's and the women's teams to place in the top 10 says a lot about our culture as a cross country program and what we are building here at Queens. The women ran amazing and executed to perfection. We're still learning what it takes to be a top-four team and will continue to move in that direction. It's now time to get ready for track season!"
Leading the men today was junior
Anthony Raftis (32:59) who earned all-American honors with a 20
th place finish.
Nick Kipkemei was 56
th with a time of 33:53.4 and
Felix Wammetsberger finished 77
th in 34:14.8.
Elijah Inuwa (34:26.1) grabbed 89
th place and
Jose Rosas (34:38.3) was 102
nd.
Daniel Wallis crossed the line in 116
th place in 34:45.8.
Lucie Noall led the women placing 51
st in a time of 23:46.5.
Natane Deruytter was the next Royal to cross the line taking 86
th in 24:19, and
Carissa Jenkins was 98
th in 24:22.4.
Mandi Moxie placed 121
st with a time of 24:33.6 while
Zuzana Durcova (24:50.5) was 142
nd.
Allyson Arellano (25:44.1) and
Aleksa Heeley (26:35.6) also ran finishing 202
nd and 232
nd, respectively.
