CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte men's and women's cross country teams opened up the season at nearby Frank Liske Park against Charlotte and UNC on Friday, Aug. 30. Find the full results linked here.
"We had a solid start to the season," said Dragan Pesic, Director of Track & Cross Country. "With the current team, we're focused on rebuilding our distance program, and I'm pleased with the potential I've seen from our runners."
Senior veteran Sarah Watts picked up the highest finish on the women's side from Queens, finishing the 5K course with a time of 18:23.9. Freshman Simone Mouras would cross the finish line next for the Royals with a time of 19:33.5, taking 34th place. In the third-highest finish for Queens was freshman Lina Mills-Zacapa, taking the 39th place with a time of 20:05.0.
The women finished in third overall with a score of 84. UNC took home the race with an overall score of 15.
The men's side saw sophomore Victor Tvistholm Jorgensen finish in 13th place with a time of 15:13.3. Crossing next for the Royals was graduate senior Lance Sotelo who took home a time of 16:00.4. The third-highest finish for the squad was sophomore Noah Boeck with a time of 16:06.6, earning 32nd place.
UNC eventually took home the men's victory with a score of 24.
"The goal of today's race was to get the body and mind used to racing and competing again after a long summer of training," said Will Crocker, Associate Head Coach of Cross Country said. "I thought all of our athletes executed the plan and competed well in some tough racing conditions. Looking forward seeing improvements throughout the season and competing on our home course in two weeks."
