YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Co-Champions and fifth-seeded Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team is set to take to the pitch tomorrow for the first round of the NCAA DII Men's Soccer Southeast Regional Championships against conference foe and fourth-seeded Tusculum University.
Friday's match pinning the fourth and fifth seeds is slated to begin at 7 p.m. from Young Harris College in Young Harris, Ga.
Queens will be competing in the NCAA Tournament for the seventh time in school history and first time since 2013, while Tusculum will be making its sixth appearance and first since 2016.
The Royals enter with a 10-5-1 overall record after notching a double-digit win season for the third time under head coach
Oliver Carias. Finishing the regular season in a tie for first-place atop the conference, Queens earned a two-seed in the South Atlantic Conference Championships. Tusculum, who holds a 12-6-1 record, comes in fresh off a win in the SAC Championship as the three-seed, the Pioneers' third title in five years.
The two teams faced off once this season back on Sept. 12 in a dramatic match that came down to the final seconds of regulation. After Tusculum jumped ahead to a two-goal lead early on, Queens stormed back to knot the match at 2-2 with goals in the 38th and 52nd minute from
Liam Doyle. With the score remaining tied as the final minute of regulation ticked down, the Royals made one last run. Doyle found space down the right side, allowing him to launch a cross across the box to a streaking
Alberto Morales. Taking advantage of a perfect cross right to his foot, Morales connected on a perfect strike into the upper-90 for the game's winning goal with 16.4 seconds remaining on the clock.
Queens has won the last two matchups between the two teams, while both teams have three head-to-head wins apiece since the Royals joined the SAC in 2013.
The winner of Friday's first round contest will move on to play undefeated Young Harris College (16-0-0) in the second round on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 1 p.m.
