DURHAM, N.C. – Facing their third United Soccer Coaches Top 25 opponent this season, the Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team (5-5-5 overall, 0-1-3 ASUN) turned in a quality 0-0 draw at No. 19 Duke University (7-1-6 overall, 3-1-2 ACC) on Tuesday night. The Royals backline shined, holding the Blue Devils scoreless despite getting off 31 shots and 22 corner opportunities.
TURNING POINT
The difference in the match proved to be the execution by the Royals defense. Despite the volume of looks from the Blue Devils, the Queens backline held Duke to just 10 shots on frame. Sophomore
Matheus Rhormens was monumental in the draw, smothering nine saves to match his career-high.
KEY STATS & NOTES
- The clean sheet from Rhormens was his sixth shutout this season, which is tied for the fourth most in a single season in school history.
- Michel Feldman led the Royals attack with a pair of shots, including one on goal. Vitor Baptistelli and Oliver Kneer rounded out the Royals offensive opportunities with a shot each.
- Seven Royals, including Matheus Rhormens, Otto Gustafsson, Leontios Zacharia, Nathan Tozzi, Jaiden Anderson, Michel Feldman, and Rodrigo Canovas, played all 90 minutes.
- Drew Kerr led the Duke offense with eight shots, including two on goal. Ulfur Bjornsson and Kenan Hot, a pair of Top Drawer Soccer Top 50 standouts, combined for 10 shots, and three on goal.
