CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team completed the regular season at 5-3 in South Atlantic Conference play to earn the No. 4 seed in this week's SAC Men's Lacrosse Championships. The Royals will host fifth-seeded Catawba College (8-6, 4-4) tomorrow at 4 p.m., at Dickson Field for a quarterfinal round matchup.
The Royals took the regular season contest against the Indians at home by a score of 13-6.
Garrett Sadler led the Royals with four points on two goals and two assists, while
Griffin Stechmiller and
Justin Swick followed with two goals and an assist apiece.
Jesse Oliver and
Duncan Smith also scored two goals each as
Allen Curtiss,
Laszlo Henning and
Reed Murphy each notched one goal.
Jonathan Paige led with 12 ground balls and won 17-of-21 face-offs.
Catawba was led by Liam Lynch who scored two goals. Dalton Cook added one goal and one assist. Goalkeeper Ryan Applegate finished the game with 20 saves.
The Royals opened the 2016 SAC Championships against Catawba last season defeating the Indians, 13-5, in the quarterfinals. They went on to advance to the finals falling to Lenoir-Rhyne, 10-9.
Queens is currently undefeated at home this season with a record of 6-0.
A win over the Indians will advance Queens to the semifinals on Thursday at 4 p.m., against top-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne.
