CAYCE, S.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte (6-1, 4-0) men's tennis program earned a key South Atlantic Conference victory as they went on the road and defeated Newberry College (11-3, 3-1), 8-1, on Friday, March 17.
With both teams coming into the match-up undefeated in SAC play, the Royals flexed their muscles early as they captured all three doubles points.
The margin of victory increased as one went down the lineup as the No. 1 team of Pablo Bompieri and
Andor Vas won 8-5, the No. 2 team of
Giovanni Setti and
Sebastian Meum took an 8-4 victory and the No. 3 duo of
Jules Athalis and
Joel Dunlap cruised to an 8-1 win.
Queens was as nearly dominant in the singles portion of the match as
Paolo Bompieri cruised at the second flight, 6-2, 6-2,
Agustin Aran Martin dominated NC's Nikhil Mannepalli (6-3, 6-2) at No. 3 and
Zachary Williams only ceded one game at No. 6 (6-1, 6-0) to Richard Zeh.
Andor Vas (6-4, 7-6) and
Giovanni Setti (6-1, 7-5) were also victorious in singles action.
The Royals return to the hardcourts this upcoming Wednesday, March 17 when they head to Wingate University.
