Box Score 2 Charlotte, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte softball team (19-20, 8-6 SAC) found a split series with Lincoln Memorial (18-22, 6-8 SAC) on Saturday, April 4, 2016. Queens tabbed the first game win in five innings as the Royals put up an 11-3 score. Game two fell to the Railsplitters as they bounced back to grab the second game 6-3.
It was a steady build for the Royals as they found back-to-back innings of solo scoring runs.
Sydney Ditto took the first run of the day reaching home in the first inning. In the team's second at bat,
Jasmyn Lindsay blasted a ball out of the park to make it a 2-0 game.
The Railsplitters responded with a run from Ashlea Hunter who scored off a single from Lindsay Cecil. However, Queens rattled off five runs in the bottom of the third inning as
Lyndey McCurry scored off a double from
Hanna Hasker in addition to a three-run homerun from
Abby Lathan.
Kayla Hall followed with a solo homerun to make it a 7-1 game.
As the game progressed, Lincoln Memorial chipped away at the score adding two runs between their fourth and fifth inning of play, but Queens would put up another four runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.
Taylor Rosenbalm would homer into left field followed by a scoring run from
Samantha Martinez who jumped home off a hit by Ditto. Ditto and
Elaina Frantellizzi would both score off of errors.
McCurry secured the game win to move to 7-8, pitching for 4.1 innings. McCurry saw four hits and just two earned runs.
Evie Scott would come in to secure the last two outs for the team giving up no hits and no runs.
Brianna Taylor (10-10) suffered the loss for the team pitching four complete innings with 13 hits and eight runs. Kenzie Dixon would come in during the fifth inning, giving up three hits and three runs.
Game two was a switch from the game prior as LMU added two runs in their opening two at bats. A homerun in the third inning doubled their score as Queens stepped up to the plate trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the third.
Rosenbalm broke the dry spell, taking advantage of an error to steal home. However, her run would come with a response from LMU's Samantha Smith who tabbed a solo homerun in the top of the fourth. Queens would add one more to their day with Hall reaching home plate from Ditto's hit into right field. However, LMU again found one over the fence to close out the day.
Catelyn Presley (5-8) took the loss for the team going 2.1 innings with four hits and four runs. Scott would come in as relief for 3.2 innings with four hits and two runs as McCurry closed out the day with just one inning pitch and one hit.
Smith would pitch all seven innings for the Railsplitters. She saw nine hits but only two earned runs on the day as she moved to a 7-8 record.
Queens heads to Catawba on Tuesday, April 12 to face the Indians in a double-header beginning at 2 p.m.
