No. 16 Royals Upset at Home by Bears in Double OT

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team, ranked 16th in the nation, faced-off against the No. 20 Lenoir-Rhyne University Bears in a battle for the top spot in the South Atlantic Conference. The Bears would walk away victorious winning 12-11 over the Royals to remain undefeated in the SAC at 6-0. Queens falls to 5-2 in the league with the loss.
 
Trailing 10-6 at the start of the fourth quarter, the Royals would put together a 5-1 run in the fourth quarter to knot the game at 11-11 at the end of regulation. Garrett Chan scored the game-tying goal unassisted with 2:36 to play.
 
Queens would outshoot the Bears 3-1 in the first overtime period with LR's Ryan Crompton picking up saves on two shots. Neither team would find the back of the net as time ran off the clock forcing a second overtime.
 
Following a shot by Chan that was saved and possessed by the Bears, Jesse Oliver would step up forcing a turnover to regain control of the ball for Queens. The Royals' Garrett Sadler then fired a shot that appeared to hit the inside of the net and bounce back out to the Bears' keeper. LR then advanced the ball up the field where Mike Hanlon was able to score the game-winner with 2:16 on the clock. The goal was Hanlon's fourth of the night.
 
In the opening period two late goals, one coming from Chan and the other from Spencer Corkery, scored by Queens would give the home team a 3-2 lead heading into the second. But the Bears would catch hot in the second period putting five balls in a row in the back of the net following a goal from Corkery at 13:39. LR took a 7-4 lead into the break. Chan and Corkery headed into the locker room with two goals apiece.
 
The Royals outshot LR narrowly this evening, 41-39, putting 29 on goal. Queens also won the battle for ground balls, 38-26, and won 19 face-offs to LR's eight.
 
Chan led the Royals tonight with four goals, while Corkery totaled three. Sadler added two goals. Jonathan Paige won 19-of-26 face-offs and tallied 15 ground balls. Eric Dolan completed play in goal with nine saves.
 
Ben Corrigan trailed Hanlon of the Bears with three goals on the night. Crompton totaled 18 saves.
 
Queens is on the road at Coker College on April 16. Face-off is set for 8 p.m.
