Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team handing the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey College a _ loss this evening to improve to 10-2 on the year. The Crusaders fall to 7-5 with the nonconference loss.
In their first meeting with the Crusaders since falling at Belmont Abbey 14-12 during the 2015 season, the Royals ran away with this evening's game dominating play on the offensive end in the first half of play. While Queens' offense was building a 12-0 lead in the opening 30, the Royals' defense stayed busy as well holding the Crusaders to just five shots in the period.
Kelly Dowd would record a hat trick in the half, while
Hanna Scott totaled five points on two goals and three assists.
With the clock running the entire second half thanks to the Royals' lead, Queens was able to hold out for the win despite Belmont Abbey finding some offense in the period. The Crusaders would put five points on the board led by Rebecca Luca who notched four.
Queens outshot Belmont Abbey tonight putting all 19 of their shots on goal. The Crusaders took 14 shots putting eight on goal.
Christine Wiese completed play in goal for the Royals with three saves, while Reilly Johnson took the loss for the Crusaders after totaling three saves as well.
Dowd finished with four goals, four ground balls, three caused turnovers and one assists, while Scott totaled six points on three goals and three assists.
Alexandra Bruder recorded a hat trick, while
Maggie Masters notched three points on two goals and one assist.
Brittany Larranaga and
Abigail Paulus each tallied one goal and one assist.
Aarika Kaester totaled three ground balls and three caused turnovers on the defensive end.
Queens is back at home against Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday at 4 p.m. for a game for the top spot in the South Atlantic Conference.
