Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Charlotte, N.C.-  The Queens University of Charlotte softball team (18-19, 7-5 SAC) would split the day with Newberry College (23-15, 4-8 SAC) on Tuesday, April 5, 2016. Queens captured the first game in nine innings to go 4-3 over the Wolves. Game two saw Newberry rally for an 11-8 victory in eight innings of play.

Queens found the board first with a solo homerun from Jasmyn Lindsay. Newberry replied with a solo homerun from Christina Linton, her first of two for the game. She would boost the team to a 3-1 lead in the sixth inning with a two-run homerun. In to pinch hit for the Royals, Miranda Cummings won the pitching battle to walk home Ashton Whitaker. Trailing by one nearing the end of the game, Rosenbalm found a solo homerun over left wall to force extra innings.

Both teams were unable to bring home a run in the eighth inning as the game moved into the second bonus at bat. Queens forced three quick outs to head into the bottom of the ninth inning. With two outs, Taylor Cheek laid a hit down towards the pitcher to allow Abby Lathan to jump from third for the winning run.

Evie Scott (7-4) tabbed the win coming in to pitch the remaining four innings of play and relieve Lyndey McCurry who pitched the starting five. McCurry saw three hits and three runs. Scott saw just one hit, keeping the Wolves away from home plate.

Devon Morrison (7-8) suffered the loss going 2.2 innings with four hits and one run. She came in for Maude McCorry who went 6.0 innings with three hits and three runs.

Unlike the first game, the second sat even through three straight innings before a scoring frenzy erupted on both sides of the bat. Newberry saw just one run come off a double in the fourth inning to score Halley Drawe. Queens answered with four runs in the bottom of the fourth as Sydney Ditto, Samantha Martinez, Whitaker, and Lindsay all reached home plate. All four runs would benefit from errors off the Newberry defense; however they would regain their composer and find a homerun in the fifth to bring the Wolves back within two.

With bats still heated from the inning before, Queens rattled off another two runs with Taylor Rosenbalm and Martinez rounding the bases. They would reach off of hits from Lindsay and McCurry, respectively.

With a 6-3 lead, Newberry started their build with a run from Tori Zambrano and a homer from Natalle Willis in the sixth. Despite an answer from Rosenbalm who brought in Kayla Hall, Newberry would take seven runs between the next two innings.

Hall scored in the eighth inning but Queens would fall 11-8.

Lyndey McCurry would drop to a 7-8 pitching record after concluding the last 2.1 innings of play with five hits and seven runs. Scott and Catelyn Presley would also pitch during the game. Presley started working her way through four innings for five hits and two runs. Scott would see three hits and two runs in her 1.2 innings of play.

The team will play on Saturday, April 9, against Lincoln Memorial. The double-header will begin at 1 p.m., and will serve as the team's senior day.
