CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team, ranked 15
th in the nation, will take on The Lenoir-Rhyne University Bears for the 2016 South Atlantic Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship Title tomorrow at the Queens Sports Complex. It will be the third time in a row that these teams have faced off in the championship.
The Royals advanced to the title game after defeating Tusculum College convincingly by a score 21-6.
Brittany Larranaga led the Royals to victory with four goals on the day with help from
Alexandra Bruder's hat trick.
Lenoir-Rhyne moved on to the championship game after picking up an 11-9 win over Catawba College in the semifinal round of play. Aubriana Benedetto led the Bears with three goals and one assist, while Torey Schwitkis completed play with two goals and two assists.
In the regular season meeting between the two teams, Queens walked away the winner after outscoring Lenoir-Rhyne 17-7. Larranaga totaled five goals in the game, while
Abigail Paulus totaled five points on a hat trick and two assists. Gabby Sousa and Benedetto each recorded three points for the Bears in the game.
2016 SAC Freshman of the Year
Hanna Scott leads the Royals this season with 71 points on 36 goals and 35 assists.
Abigail Paulus follows with 63 points on 33 goals and 30 assists, while
Kelly Dowd holds 53 points on the season after totaling 42 goals and 11 assists.
Claire Wach leads the Bears this season with 61 points on 33 goals and 28 assists, while Benedetto follows with 57 points on 39 goals and 18 assists.
Tomorrow's championship game will take place at the Queens Sports Complex in Charlotte, N.C., at 5 p.m.
