Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. –The No. 15 Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team (8-2, 3-2 SAC) topped the Pioneers of Tusculum (8-4, 3-3 SAC) on Saturday, April 02, 2016.
Kelly Dowd would led the team to victory grabbing five goals in the game to contribute to the team's 24-11 win.
The Royals got the ball rolling early, with the opening goal coming from
Shannon Mansberger within the first two-minutes of play. The Pioneers managed to find a quick response from Cheyenne Bray equalizing just a minute later. Finding their rhythm, Queens fired off five consecutive goals, including a hat-trick from
Brittany Larranaga to take the score to 6-1 with 20 minutes to play in the first. The two teams alternated to take the score to 9-6 before the Royals were able to regained control scoring four consecutive to see the half out 13-6.
Nineteen seconds into the second half, Dowd opened up the scoring for the Royals off an assist from
Hanna Scott. Scott would then go on to add another goal to her tally, which forced a response from the Pioneers who rattled off three quick shots to pull back within 15-9 with 20 minutes remaining in the game. Queens would end any comeback hopes from Tusculum, scoring nine goals with only two in response to see the game out, 24-11.
Scott tallied three goals to go along with her four assists for seven points, leading the team for the day.
Abigail Paulus had three assists and three goals for a total of six points. Dowd finished on top for goals totaling five, joining Mansberger, three goals and two assists, and Alex Bruder, four goals and one assist, for five points for the day.
The Royals outshot Tusculum 36-15 putting 31 shots on goal. The team also won the in draw controls, 21-15. Goalkeeper
Christine Wiese had two saves to tab the win.
Madison Malone and Hayley Bartlett led the Pioneers with three goals and one assists equally, while Cheyenne Bray contributed with two goals. Brooke Wagner totaled 4 saves on the day.
The Royals are back in action at Pfeiffer University at 7 p.m., on Monday, April 4
th.
