Queens Rallies for Anderson Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Anderson, S.C.  – The Queens University of Charlotte softball team found a shared series against the Trojans of Anderson on Saturday, April 02, 2016. Both games saw dominate performances as Anderson held a 9-2 lead at the end of the seven innings while Queens worked their way into a 6-2 score for game two. Queens would move to a 17-18 overall and 6-4 in the South Atlantic Conference after the day's events while Anderson moved to 25-11 overall and 5-5 in league play.

The first game saw an early run scored by Carli Hurtado who reached off a double from Molly Child. Neither team found runners in the second inning but Anderson would add four more runs to their tally by the end of the third.

Down 5-0, Queens was left looking for answers as they were nearing the end of the game. They found so with Samantha Martinez and Taylor Rosenbalm reaching home plate in the top of the sixth. However, Anderson concluded the game with four more runs in the bottom of the inning.

Lyndey McCurry suffered the loss for the team to move to 7-7. She pitched 2.2 innings with five hits and five runs. Evie Scott would come in as the relief pitcher to pitch 3.1 innings. She gave up eight hits and four runs while tabbing four strikeouts.

Augie Pena (9-3) took the win for Anderson pitch all seven innings with five hits and two runs.

Game two saw a rally from the Royals as they came out strong tabbing two runs in the opening inning from Rosenbalm and Martinez.

The team added four more runs as they worked their way through three at bats. Rosenbalm, Abby Lathan, and Martinez each found their way around the bases to put up three runs on the board. In the third inning, Hanna Hasker reached home plate running off a fly out from Rosenbalm.

Anderson found two runs with one coming in the bottom of the fourth and one in the bottom of the sixth. However, Queens held on to take the win 6-2 win.

Catelyn Presley (4-7) tabbed the win starting the game and re-enter in the sixth inning for a total of 5.0 innings pitched. She saw five hits and two runs. Scott pitched 2.0 innings with no hits and no runs.

Randee Bettis (5-4) suffered the loss pitching 1.2 innings giving up six hits and five runs. Lauren Rudesheim pitched the remaining 5.1 innings for two hits and one run.

Queens will be back in action on Tuesday, April 5, as the team hosts Newberry for a 2 p.m., start time in the double-header series. The game will also serve as the SAC Hunger game helping to collect food for the homeless community of Charlotte.
