Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team hosted Tusculum College today, winning 16-9 over the Pioneers. The win improves Queens' record to 8-4 on the year and 5-1 in the South Atlantic Conference, while Tusculum falls to 2-3 in the conference and 3-7 on the year.
The Royals opened the first half with an unassisted goal from
Garrett Chan in the first minute of play. Queens then saw two more goals reach the back of the net over the next five minutes to build a 3-0 lead. The Pioneers soon had an answer, responding with three of their own to tie the game at 3-3 with 5:34 to play. However, the knotted game would be short lived as
Jonathan Paige found
Jesse Oliver for a score right after the face-off to give the home team a 4-3 lead heading into the second.
Queens' offense then took over, outscoring the Pioneers 5-2 in the second period to take a 9-5 lead into the halftime break.
In the third, a goal from
JT Thompson at 10:21 would get the Royals going as Chan and
Garrett Sadler followed to make it three in row, giving Queens a 12-5 lead.
Tusculum would close the gap to five in the fourth quarter with a goal from Nate Wade at 2:12, but that was as close as the Royals would allow them to get as Thompson and
Gavin Perry closed the game with a pair of scores, giving Queens the 16-9 victory.
Queens outshot Tusculum College, 47-31, and totaled 42 ground balls to the Pioneers' 21.
Eric Dolan took the win in the goal after totaling 12 saves.
The Royals were led by Thompson who totaled four goals on the day. Chan recorded three goals and two assist, while
Jesse Oliver had two goals to go along with three ground balls.
Tusculum's Chris Ryan and Dallas Wade each recorded hat tricks. Kevin Haggerty took the loss for the Pioneers after recording 19 saves.
During halftime of the game today the Royals honored six seniors. Goalkeeper
