Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team, ranked 13
th in the nation, hosted No. 10 Mercyhurst University this afternoon falling 14-6 to the Lakers. The loss brings the Royals' overall record to 7-3, while the Lakers improve to 7-1 on the year.
Queens was led by
Garrett Sadler and
Spencer Corkery on the offensive end as each totaled two goals. Sadler also tallied an assist, while
Garrett Chan recorded one goal and one assist. Goalkeeper
Eric Dolan registered seven saves in the loss.
After Sadler matched Mercyhurst's game opening goal with one for Queens at 5:49, the Lakers closed the first period with three goals in a row to lead 4-1. They then opened the second quarter with a pair of scores to extend their lead to five, 6-1, with 12:38 on the clock. Queens responded outscoring Mercyhurst 2-1 in the closing minutes of the half to trail 7-3 at the break.
Despite opening the second half with a goal from
Griffin Stechmiller, the Royals would go cold again as the Lakers put three more balls in the back of the net. Sadler would score an unassisted goal with four ticks on the clock in the third to make the score 10-5 heading into the final period. However, the Lakers controlled things once again offensively in the final 15 to take the nonconference win.
Queens was outshot 35-30 by the Lakers, but won the battle for ground balls, 27-26. Queens also won the face-off battle, taking 17 of 23.
Mercyhurst was led by Derek Richards who scored four goals. Colin Greenway and James Crowe each recorded hat tricks.
Queens is back in action on the road at Wingate on Wednesday, March 30 at 7 p.m.
