Box Score SALISBURY, N.C.  – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team traveled to take on Catawba College this afternoon coming away with a 16-10 win to open South Atlantic Conference play at 1-0. The Royals now sit 15^th in the nation with a 3-0 record, while the Indians fall to 2-1 on the year and 0-1 in the league.
 
Kelly Dowd led the Royals attack today scoring four goals on seven shots. Shannon Mansberger, Maggie Masters, Hanna Scott and Alexandra Bruder followed with two goals apiece. Abigail Paulus finished with four assists to go along with her one goal, while Bruder tallied three assists and Scott had two.
 
After trading goals early with the Indians, Queens put together an 8-0 run to put some space between themselves and Catawba. Mansberger and Dowd scored twice during the run, while Paulus notched three assists. The Royals would lead 9-3 at the halftime break.
 
The second half saw a much more evenly matched offensive attack on both ends as each team put seven points on the board. However, Queens' lead built in the opening half proved to be too strong enough to keep the Indians at bay as they walked away with the league victory.
 
Queens outshot the Indians, 37-18, and won the battle for ground balls, 25-21. The Royals also won the battle at the draw, 17-11. Christine Wiese finished in goal with six saves for the win, while Catawba's Bethany Davis totaled 12 saves in her loss.
 
Meredith Jones led the Indians with four goals and two assists this afternoon. Megan Shortt and Alyssa Corace added two goals apiece.
 
Queens will travel to face No. 6 Rollins on Monday, March 7 at 7 p.m. They will then remain in Florida to take on Saint Leo on Wednesday, March 9 at 7 p.m.
