Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team has picked up right where they left off last season earning their second win in as many games today against the Griffins of Seton Hill University. Queens' 13-11 win over No. 16 Seton Hill gives the Griffins their first loss of the season as they drop to 1-1.
The Royals outshot Seton Hill 25-20 and fired 22 of those 25 shots on net, forcing the opposing goalie to attempt to make more saves than she could handle. The offense was powered by
Abigail Paulus and
Hanna Scott who each totaled three goals and one assist.
Kelly Dowd added two goals and one assist, while
Alexandra Bruder chipped in with two goals. Bruder also totaled three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
After netting the first goal of the game in the opening minute, Queens found themselves trailing 3-1 thanks to three straight goals from the Griffins. However, a 9-2 run would turn things around in the half as Queens headed into the locker room with a 10-5 lead.
A three goal push by Seton Hill in the second half would threaten Queens' lead as the visitors closed the gap to three, 12-9, with 20:03 to play. However, a goal from Scott would put Queens' back ahead by four at 16:40. The Griffins still wouldn't give in as they put two more in the back of the net over the next three minutes, but the Royals' defense would hold them scoreless for the remainder of play to secure the win.
Emily Fagan of Seton Hill led all scorers on the field with five goals and one assist today. Renee Kanie totaled five assists to go along with one goal.
In goal, Queens'
Christine Wiese totaled three saves in the win. Meghan Hollar recorded nine saves for the Griffins.
The Royals can be seen back in action on Wednesday, March 2 as they travel to face Catawba College. Both teams go into the game undefeated and will be looking to kick off their conference record with a win as well. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m.
