Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team, ranked 20
th in the nation, hosted Alderson Broaddus University this morning for their home opener, defeating the Battlers 20-11 at Dickson Field. The Royals improve to 2-0 on the season, while AB begins their year at 0-1.
After heading into the locker room tied with the Battlers, 8-8, at the break, the Royals took control in the second half outscoring AB 12-3 to pick up today's win. Queen's attack was led by Jesse Olliver and
Garrett Sadler who each totaled five goals.
Garrett Chan led in assists with seven, while Sadler notched two.
Spencer Corkery totaled two goals and two assists.
Jonathan Paige won 25-of-28 face-offs and grabbed 19 ground balls.
After trading goals in the first to make things knotted at the half, The Royals opened the third quarter with four straight goals before allowing the Battlers to find the back of the net once. A man down goal from Olliver with 2:28 on the clock followed AB's lone goal of the period, and gave Queens a 13-9 lead heading into the fourth.
In the fourth, Queens scored five goals in a row to see their largest lead of the day, 18-9, with 6:26 to play. Each team would close things finding the back of the net twice more on man-up opportunities to give the game its final score of 20-11.
Queens outshot the Battlers, 57-37, this morning and totaled 38 ground balls to their 25. Additionally, the Royals won 26-of-33 face-offs after winning the opening seven of the game.
Eric Dolan of Queens took the win in goal after totaling 13 saves. Dom Mariarty also totaled 13 saves in goal for AB.
The Royals are back in action on the road at No. 15 Pfeiffer University on February 20. The game is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
