Box Score HICKORY, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (2-11, 0-8 SAC) had a tough time against South Atlantic Conference foe Lenoir-Rhyne (4-9, 3-6 SAC) as they dropped the contest 69-44 on Wednesday, January 13, 2016.
Carmen Richardson was all over the stat sheet in the game as she scored 15 points on 6-of-18 shooting, gathered a career-high 12 rebounds, and added three assists in the game.
Erin Brundage and
Maggie Stewart each added ten points to the score for the Royals.
Queens shot 32.7 percent from the field in the game, including going 4-of-16 from three point range. The Royals outrebounded the Bears 40-35 in the game, but turned the ball over 21 times which accounted for 16 points for Lenoir-Rhyne
The Bears built a quick 11-4 lead to start the game following a three pointer by Justyce Swango. Queens then worked hard to even the score at 18-18 as
Erin Brundage made a three-point basket with 3:38 remaining in the first half. Lenoir-Rhyne would answer right back as they went on an 8-2 run to end the first half and take a 26-20 lead into halftime.
The Royals scored the first bucket of the second half following a Stewart layup but would have trouble finding the basket in the third quarter. Lenoir-Rhyne found a hot streak behind Swango's ten third quarter points, to outscore Queens 21-7 to take a 47-27 lead into the fourth quarter. For the remainder of the game, the Royals would work hard to knock down Lenoir-Rhyne's lead, but unfortunately the Bears would end the game with a 69-44 win over Queens.
Justyce Swango led Lenoir-Rhyne with 18 points and four assists in the game. Cassidy Joyner was also a key player for the Bears as she added 14 points, four rebounds, and three assists.
Queens will return to the friendly confines of the Levine Center on Saturday, January 16, when they face off against Tusculum College with tip-off set for 2:00 p.m.
