Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team fell 4-3 to No. 10 Limestone College this evening at Dickson Field to open the 2015 season at 0-1. The Saints open their season at 1-0 after coming from behind to defeat the Royals.
At the half, the Royals held a 2-1 lead over the Saints thanks to a pair of goals from junior midfielder
Corey Brown. Brown's first goal came early in the third minute of play when he rebounded his own shot and headed the ball into the net. He then gave the Royals a 2-0 advantage when he and
Ryan Ejezie teamed up on a breakaway up the field. As the pair approached the net, Ejezie slid a pass to Brown who then shot the ball past Limestone's keeper for the score.
The Saints saw their first goal of the game in the 23
rd when Sebastian Gregersen found a cross sent into the box by Jorge Salvat. Gregersen headed the ball past Queens' keeper,
Sergio Lemus, to give the game a 2-1 score that would hold until the break.
In the 55
th minute Queens would go ahead 3-1 when
Austin Huddy found the back of the net on a header during a set play. Following a foul, Brown sent a ball into the box that was headed by
Isaac Walker before Huddy sent it into the net for the score. Both Brown and Walker were credited assists on the play.
Unfortunately for the Royals, Huddy's goal would be the last of the night for the home team as the Saints scored three consecutive times in the 68
th, 70
th and 77
th minutes to take over control of the game and hold out for the win. The first goal would come from Harry Cooksley on a free kick, while Nestor Aguilar followed with one from 30 yards out that sailed into the upper 90. Salvat then scored the game winner with a chip shot just out of Lemus' reach.
Both teams totaled 13 shots on the night, while Limestone edged the Royals 6-5 in corner kicks. Lemus completed the game with five saves, while Limestone's Tod Godfrey totaled seven.
The Royals are back at home on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. when they play host to Southern Wesleyan University.
