DELAND, Fla. – Queens University of Charlotte Men's Soccer picked up a pivotal win in Atlantic Sun Conference action on Saturday (Sept. 19) with a 1-0 victory over the Stetson Hatters on the road.
With the win, Queens improves to 2-5-1 overall on the season and 1-1-1 in ASUN play. After tonight's results around the league, Queens sits in fourth place in the standings with four points behind North Florida (9), Lipscomb (6), and Central Arkansas (6).

HOW IT HAPPENED
Queens entered the evening aiming to get back into the win column coming off a 2-0 loss earlier in the week at Duke. Meanwhile, Stetson had won their last two matches over Presbyterian (4-1) and West Florida (2-0).
In the first half, Stetson convincingly won the shot battle six to one but the Queens defense was ready for the challenge.
Matthew Bademian earned the start at goalkeeper for the third consecutive match and his fourth match this season seeing action. Bademian totaled four saves in the first half as his efforts kept the score tied at 0-0 going into halftime.
The offensive attack for Queens generated five total shots in the match with one of them being on goal. That opportunity came for the Royals in the 60th minute when Queens was awarded a free kick just past midfield.
Luis Vera Mayorca took the set piece, and delivered a perfectly placed ball in the box that connected with
Rodrigo Canovas who found the back of the net for his first goal of the season to give Queens a 1-0 lead.
Despite outshooting Queens 12 to five, Stetson was unable to create a shot on goal in the second half and challenge Bademian as the Royals picked up a critical win in the ASUN standings by a score of 1-0.
