Schwenk Scores in Carson-Newman Loss

Box Score JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Queens University of Charlotte was on the road this afternoon taking on Carson-Newman College and looking for their first South Atlantic Conference win of the year. However, the Royals would come up short falling 2-1 to the Eagles, making their record 2-5 on the year and 0-4 in the league. The Eagles improved to 5-1-1 on the year and 3-1 in the SAC with the win.

The Eagles were able to take a 1-0 lead early in the game after Lucas Siqueira found the back of the net in the 12th minute of play. Carson-Newman then took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break following a late goal from Jules Gabbiadini in the 45th.

A foul inside the box would award the Royals the opportunity to pull within one in the 64th, and junior midfielder Marc-Kevin Schwenk would be the one to capitalize scoring on the penalty kick to make it a 2-1 game. Unfortunately, the Royals were unable to score another in the closing minutes despite outshooting the Eagles 8-3 in the period.

Queens was edged 13-10 in shots this afternoon, with the Eagles also leading 7-6 in shots on goal. Schwenk led the Royals with five shots putting four on frame. Queens goalkeeper Sergio Lemus completed play with four saves, while Kavi Luchowa of Carson-Newman totaled five saves.

Queens will be back in action on Wednesday when they host the University of Mount Olive at 7:30 p.m. for a nonconference game.
