Box Score Mars Hill, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte volleyball team (4-6, 3-3 SAC) topped Mars Hill (4-6, 2-4 SAC) on Friday, September 25, 2015, in three sets. The Royals went 25-15, 25-18, 25-18 to take their victory against the Lions.
The Royals dominated defensively taking 11 blocks as a team while only suffering one during their offensive pursuit. This is the second time this season a Queens' opponent has tallied just one block.
Queens held control for the first two sets showing force heading into the final points of both games. It was not until the third set that the Royals would see a brief momentum shift towards the Lions. A 4-1 run put Queens behind at 15-13, but the Royals rallied and march back into the game with a six-point unanswered run. Queens would go on to close the match with a 3-0 run to take the last set 25-18.
The first set saw the Royals push to an early 5-2 lead, only to have the Lions tie the game at 9-9. Mars Hill would be unable to keep the momentum alive as Queens held control until the end of the set. Queens finished strong only allowing six more points for the Lions.
That same confidence followed Queens during the second set as the team kept Mars Hill from making a challenging run. The Royals kept a comfortable lead and held the Lions to just five kills in the second set.
Jessica Raines and
Meredith Jones equaled at eight kills. M. Jones,
Megan Mancini, and
Annika Jones each had 10 digs apiece to lead the team.
Taylor Henry would tally four blocks for the team.
Elizabeth Kaeser led the Lions with eight kills. Victoria Kaeser would have 23 digs to lead the game in the stat line.
Queens will be back home tomorrow as the Royals host Tusculum. The game will take place inside the Levine Center at 2 p.m.
