Box Score Charlotte, N.C. –The Queens University of Charlotte volleyball fell in four sets to Carson-Newman on Saturday, September 19, 2015. The Royals would claim the first set, however Carson-Newman found the next three sets to clinch the match 23-25, 26-24, 25-16, 25-23. Queens moves to a 2-6 record overall and 1-3 in the South Atlantic Conference. Carson-Newman continues their undefeated run in the SAC with a 4-0 record. They are 7-1 overall.
The match started with the two teams trading points throughout the first set. Carson-Newman led the way through a 15-15 tie.
Rebecca Cochran changed the momentum towards Queens, giving the team their first true space in the set. Off of Cochran's kill, Queens found a three point barrier to put them in front 18-15. Although Carson-Newman found three points in the closing moments of the set,
Elizabeth Bialkowski fired one onto the Eagles side for the game point.
The next three sets fell to the Eagles but not without a fight from the Royals. The second set saw Queens lead through a 20-20 tie. The late Carson-Newman comeback put the team at game point after a 4-1 run. Although Queens did find some momentum late to tie the game at 24-24, the next two points fell to the Eagles to close the set.
The build in second set by the Eagles continued into the third set as Queens was unable to gain control. Carson-Newman capped the set with a nine point lead to give them the upper hand heading into Set 4.
Fighting to stay in the game, Queens kept close to the Eagles for the entirety of the set. The two teams would tie nine times throughout the game. A kill from Sara Fairley would end the match in favor of the Eagles.
Cochran led the Royals with 13 kills, 15 digs, and a service ace.
Meredith Jones would follow with 11 kills and 13 digs.
Fairley topped the day with 20 kills to lead her team. Natalie Harris took second for the stat line with 11 kills.
Queens will be back in action on Tuesday, September 22 as the travel to Catawba. The match is set for 7 p.m.
