Royals Match Comeback Falls Short at Anderson

Box Score Anderson, S.C. –Despite overcoming a first set loss, Queens University of Charlotte volleyball fell in five sets to the Anderson University Trojans on Friday, September 11, 2015. Anderson moved to a 3-2 record (1-0 SAC) after taking the match 25-17, 24-26, 19-25, 25-14, 15-10. Queens moved to a 1-4 record (0-1 SAC) after falling in their first conference game.

Although the first set went to Anderson, who leaped out of a tight score halfway through the game to take the set 25-17, the team rallied to claim Set 2.  The second set started with Anderson taking a 7-2 lead putting the Royals on the defensive. Meredith Jones started the teams climb back into the game helping to lead the Royals to a tying 9-9 score. The two teams would remain close but the Royals came out victorious with kills from Jones and Jessica Raines capping the set, respectively.

From the start, Set 3 was under Queens' control as the team found an early 7-3 run. Pressure from the Royals' offense soon gave them a six point lead at 20-14. Anderson would never recover as Queens stepped ahead 2-1 in the match.

Five service aces helped boost the Trojans' offense as the team fought to stay in the game. Their fourth set rally pushed the match into a deciding game, which saw Anderson lead early with a 10-4 score. Although Queens would close the gap, the match fell to the Trojans.

Raines and Jones equaled at 12 kills apiece to lead the Royals in the match. Jones added three service aces and 16 digs to the night. Raines added three blocks and an assists to the Royals. Megan Mancini grabbed two aces during the match including an ace to take the third set for the team. She would also lead the team in digs tabbing 19 in the five set match.

Serena Jackson topped the Trojans with 21 kills, hitting a .594 for the match. Tinsley Hallman took second on the team for kills tallying 14. Hallman added 14 digs and four service aces to her night.

Queens heads to Carson-Newman tomorrow. The two teams will faceoff at 5 p.m. as the Royals battle their second conference opponent on the road.
