The first game remained scoreless for the first two innings as both teams managed to reach the bases. Queens would strike first as
Abby Lathan singled up the middle of the field.
Robyn Levine would take a sacrifice bunt to move Lathan over before a wild pitch had the runner standing on third base.
Whitney Britt drove one out into center field to bring Lathan in for the run. The bottom of the fourth proved even more profitable for the team seeing three Queens's runners find their way home.
Venus Gonzalez took the first run of the inning off a single by
Taylor Cheek into center field. Cheek made her way to second base off the throw home. A few plays later,
Robyn Levine found a two base hit down the left field line to give Cheek and Lathan the chance to score. Both teams would struggle the rest of the game through the wind capping the match in favor of the Royals.
Mars Hill came out with a purpose to start the second game taking four hits and two runs in their first at bat as both Melissa Garcia and Robyn Stanek rounded the bases. They would add three more runs in the top of the second as Taylor Caviness crossed home plate for an unearned run and Stanek found a two-run homerun moments later. Not out of the game, Queens banded together to work their way into a one run game. Starting with a double from Britt out into right field, both Lathan and Cheek found home plate to put two runs on the board.
Taylor Rosenbalm grabbed a double herself allowing Britt the chance to score. Rosenbalm would also make her way home as
Samantha Martinez found a hole in right field making it a 5-4 Lions game.
Queens finally found their tying run in the bottom of the third with
Amanda Meade doubling down the right field line. Cheek gave Meade the nod to third with a hit down the first base line before
Robyn Levine flew one out into center field to bring in the run. The tie would be short lived however as the Lions found a home run early in both the fourth and the fifth innings. Mars Hill added two more in the fifth, on top of the homerun, to make it a 9-5 game.
The Royals continue their season with a short turnaround, heading to Lincoln Memorial tomorrow for a double-header. The teams take the field at 1 p.m. with the second game to follow at 3 p.m.
