Royals win second straight SAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team improved to 12-5 on the season today after winning their second straight South Atlantic Conference Championship. The Royals defeated Lenoir-Rhyne University 20-10 to add the tournament title to their regular season title.
 
Senior attacker Jena Ready totaled five goals and two assists in today's win to earn MVP honors, while junior midfielder Gabby Farina recorded five goals and one assists to also earn a spot on the all-tournament team. Junior attacker Maggie Masters finished the game with four goals and three assists, and Kelly Dowd, Nicole Forgione and Brittany Larranaga added two goals apiece. Abigail Paulus notched two assist.
 
Defensively, Jasmin Singh and Forgione led the Royals with two caused turnovers each, while Dowd led with four ground balls. Danielle Horoschak took the win in goal after recording four saves.
 
After going ahead 4-1, Queens found themselves holding just a one point lead at 13:57 thanks to back-to-back scores from Lenoir-Rhyne. Queens then closed the half with a 7-0 run to take an 11-3 lead into the break.
 
A 4-1 run in the opening 15 minutes of the second would put the Royals ahead 15-4, but the Bears answered with a 6-1 push to pull within six of Queens, 16-10, with 7:52 to play. Queens responded holding Lenoir-Rhyne scoreless for the remainder of play while putting four more points on the board to secure their second consecutive SAC tournament title.
 
Queens outshot the Bears 42-22 putting 28 shots on goal. The Royals also won the battle for ground balls, 21-16, and for draw controls, 18-14.
 
Claire Wach led Lenoir-Rhyne with four goals and one assists, while Sarah Gioconda added two goals. Ines Flueck took the loss in goal after totaling six saves.
