Queens ends season with a win

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Charlotte, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte softball (12-33, 8-14 SAC) shared the series with top of conference Carson-Newman (35-11, 17-5 SAC) on Saturday, April 18, 2015. Queens battled back to take a 7-6 win in game two after the Eagles took the first game 12-4.

Celebrating senior day, the Royals held a scoreless second game through the fourth inning before Carson-Newman found a homerun over the left field wall. Queens found their answer with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-1 lead starting with Samantha Martinez placing the ball to shortstop for Taylor Cheek to score. Robyn Levine would find a sacrifice fly into left field to give Abby Lathan a chance to score before Martinez crossed the plate off a hit from Taylor Rosenbalm. The celebration would not last long as the Eagles took five runs in their next at bat. A single from Kristen Topple brought two home before Kaitlin Pritchett hit one over the fence to bring in three runs to take a 6-3 lead. With Queens heading to the plate trailing by three, Whitney Britt sent a two base hit into right field to score two runs. Martinez and Britt would see home plate that same inning capitalizing off an Eagles error to take the lead. They Royals would hold the team off in the seventh to take the win.

Game one found Carson-Newman with an early 4-0 lead seeing solo homeruns in the first and third innings. Bre Lockett brought in the third and fourth runs in the top of the fourth inning off a single into center field.  Cheek gave the team their first run in the fourth with a single into right field for Venus Gonzalez. Lathan would clear the bases brining Amanda Meade and Cheek home with a homerun over the left field wall to make it an even game. Eagles would score four in the top of the fifth with a walk home for Lindsay Dean and a double from Lockett to score three runners. Elayna Siebert brought Lockett home for the 9-4 lead. Eagles would close the game with a run from Talisa Fiame in the sixth, before Hayley Taylor and Siebert took two more in the seventh to make it a 12-4 game.

Evie Scott (2-9) took the loss for the Royals replacing Lyndey McCurry after 2.1 innings. Scott went 2.1 innings for five hits, five runs, and two strikeouts. McCurry had two hits, two runs and one strikeout. Whitley Baker took the remaining 2.1 innings on the mound for the team giving up seven hits and five runs.

Scott saw the win in game two moving to a 3-9 record taking the mound for the last 1.2 giving up no hits, no runs, and grabbing a strikeout. Catelyn Presley started the game pitching 5.1 innings with nine hits and six runs.

Danielle Kranz (13-5) took the game one win with the last 3.2 innings pitched for the Eagles. Kranz gave up two hits but no one would cross the plate. Sarah Howard started the game for the team with 3.1 innings pitched, eight hits, and four runs.

Lindsay Dean suffered the Carson-Newman loss for game two with 5.1 innings that saw nine hits, seven runs, and four strikeouts. Howard closed out the remaining two hits giving up no hits, and no runs.

The game against the Eagles would close out the season for the team.
