Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte (12-5), ranked 13
th in the latest IWLCA national poll, defeated Catawba College 21-5 this afternoon at Dickson Field in the semifinal round of the 2015 South Atlantic Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament.
Senior attacker
Jena Ready led the Royals' offense today with six goals and two assist for eight points.
Nicole Forgione and
Brittany Larranaga each recorded hat tricks, while
Alexandra Bruder,
Kelly Dowd,
Maggie Masters and
Abigail Paulus scored two goals apiece. Forgione and Paulus also notched two assists each.
Defensively, Queens was led by
Gabby Farina who notched three caused turnovers.
Sarra Qadri added two caused turnovers and five ground balls.
Danielle Horoschak took the win in goal after totaling one save in 30 minutes of play.
Christine Wiese recorded three saves in 23:29, and
Caitlin Cavallaro notched one in 6:31.
After Catawba's Meredith Jones scored the first goal of the game at 27:57, the Royals would put 12 unanswered points on the board to go ahead 12-1 with 12:26 on the clock. Three goals in a row from the Indians would stop Queens' push, but they would end the half with two more to lead 14-4 at the break.
Queens continued their dominance in the second half outscoring Catawba 7-1 to secure the win, and advance to tomorrow's final.
The Royals outshot Catawba 35-14 putting 30 shots on goal. Additionally, Queens edged the Indians 25-22, and won the draw control battle, 16-12.
Megan Shortt led Catawba with two goals today, while Caroline Beggs, Nicolette Salay and Jones each scored one. Bethany Davis totaled eight saves in the loss.
With today's win, Queens advances to the championship game tomorrow at 5 p.m. at Dickson Field
