Box Score 2 Hickory, N.C. – Traveling to Lenoir-Rhyne, Queens University of Charlotte softball (11-32, 5-15 SAC) fell to the Bears (32-15, 12-8 SAC) on Friday, April 17, 2015. The Royals saw a 8-0 score (6 innings) fall in favor of the Bears for game one before Lenoir-Rhyne came from behind to take a 5-4 win in game two for the sweep.
Evie Scott took the first game loss moving to a 2-7 record. Scott held the mound for 1.2 innings to see two hits, one earned run, and two strikeouts.
Catelyn Presley would come in as the Royals first replacement pitching 3.1 innings giving up four hits and six runs, only two would be earned. Presley also had four strikeouts.
Whitley Baker closed off the first game going 0.2 innings with two hits and one earned run.
Lyndey McCurry took the start for game two standing on the mound for 6.0 innings with five hits and only one run. McCurry grabbed four strikeouts during her time on the mound. Scott (2-8) would serve as the replacement coming in to pitch 0.2 innings giving up four hits for four runs. She would suffer the loss.
Maryann Hoskins took the win in game one going all six innings on the mound for the Bears. Hoskins gave up only two hits with no runs. She also grabbed six strikeouts. Hoskins also received credit for the win in game two moving to a 19-5 record. Hoskins would come on to the field as the replacement finishing the remaining 2.2 innings with no hits and no runs. Brandi Hole started the second game for Lenoir-Rhyne going 4.1 innings with seven hits and four runs.
Lenoir-Rhyne took a 1-0 lead in the second inning of game one as Averi Miller hit a double into left field for Madison Carter to score. However, the third inning would add two more to the Bears side with a hit from Oliver.
Whitney Britt found her way to base off a bunt in the fourth inning but would be left stranded. With Queens struggling to find their way on base, Lenoir-Rhyne brought four more home in the fifth before closing the sixth inning with one last score.
The second game started with a shift in momentum as the Royals jumped out to an early lead seeing their first run come in the second innings as
Amanda Meade hit one into center field for McCurry. McCurry would score again in the third inning but this time she did it herself with a solo homerun down the left line. Heading into the top of the fifth, Queens made it a 4-0 game with
Robyn Levine adding one to the score board with a two base hit from
Venus Gonzalez.
Samantha Martinez would cross the plate a few moments later off a sacrifice bunt from McCurry. Lenoir-Rhyne found a run in the bottom of the sixth but it was the seventh inning that made the difference in the game. With the score 4-1, Lenoir-Rhyne rallied to find the four runs in their last at bat. Oliver took the first score to cut the lead in half. Carter would bring the team within one off a hit Brittany Coursen before Samantha Droese scored on the next play to tie the game. A single into left field from Sydney Landreth brought in the winning run to give the game to the Bears.
Queens will hit the field tomorrow for senior day as the team welcomes top of conference Carson-Newman. The double-header will begin at 1 p.m. tomorrow.
