Men’s lacrosse bounces back with win over Mars Hill

Box Score MARS HILL, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team (3-4) remains undefeated in South Atlantic Conference play after defeating Mars Hill University (1-3) on the road this afternoon. The Royals collected a 14-10 win to sit at 2-0 in league play. The Lions fall to 1-2 in the SAC with the loss.
 
Evan Farkas led the way in points for the Royals with seven on four goals and three assists, while Casey Hock chipped in with two goals and two assists. Garrett Chan added three goals, and Spencer Corkery scored two goals. The Royals also had the edge at the faceoff winning 17-of-27. Jonathan Paige led winning 11-of-17, while also collecting six ground balls. Goalkeeper Eric Dolan took the win in the cage today after totaling seven saves.
 
The Royals, entering this afternoon's game on a two-game losing streak, came ready to play outscoring the Lions 6-2 in the opening period. After Corkery broke the ice with a goal at 12:11, Chan followed with two of his own to put the Royals ahead 3-0 with 8:58 to play. Mars Hill's Anthony Malcolm tried to get the Lions going with a score at 6:50, but the Royals closed the quarter with a 3-1 run to hold on to their lead.
 
The Lions woke up in the second quarter scoring back-to-back goals following a man-up goal from Queens' Andrew Titus at the start. Hock would put another man-up goal in the net at 8:29, but two more goals from Mars Hill would cut the Royals' lead to just two, 8-6, heading into the halftime break.
 
Mars Hill's Malcolm scored the first goal out of the break at 10:58 to cut Queens' lead to one, but five straight from the Royals would be the deciding factor in today's game. A late goal from the Lions' Ryan Sage with 33 seconds in the period gave the game a 13-8 score heading into the final 15 minutes of action.
 
In the fourth quarter, the Royals were able to hold out for the win holding the Lions to just two goals.
 
The Royals dominated in the shot category today outshooting Mars Hill 47-27. Additionally, the Royals were able to win the ground ball battle, 37-26.
 
Jimmy McBride and Sage led the Lions today with five points each. McBride totaled three goals and two assists, while Sage recorded four goals and an assist. Malcom completed the game with a hat trick and one assist. Jack Grinewich totaled 15 saves in goal.
 
The Royals are back in action at home on March 14 against Brevard College at 1 p.m.
