Queens falls to Florida Southern at home

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team (6-6) suffered its first home loss of the season this afternoon falling 10-6 to Florida Southern College. The Mocs improve to 5-7 on the year with the win.

Junior attacker Garrett Chan led the Royals today with three goals, while Kenneth Stryker, Justin Kestler and Spencer Corkery each scored one apiece. Face-off specialist Jonathan Paige completed the game with eight ground balls after winning 10-of-17 face-offs. On defense, Adam Oscienny totaled three ground balls and two caused turnovers, and goal keeper Eric Dolan recorded 13 saves.

Kenneth Stryker put the Royals on the board first with an early goal at 14:43, and a goal from Garrett Chan at 6:14 would put Queens ahead 2-0. The Mocs' Doren Sorensen finally found an answer for his team at 3:23 to help Florida Southern pull within one, but a late goal from Chan put the home team up 3-1 heading into the second.

Florida Southern's offense came alive in the second period as the Mocs outscored Queens 4-1 to take a 5-4 lead into halftime. After both teams traded goals to start the quarter, Florida Southern scored three unanswered goals, two coming from Sorensen, to take over the lead.

The Royals would find themselves fighting to regain control of the lead for the entire second half of action as the Mocs outscored them 5-2 to take the win. After both teams traded goals to start the third much like they had in the second, Florida Southern scored twice more in the period to take an 8-5 lead into the final 15 minutes of play. They then scored two goals in the fourth as Queens' cold offense only found the back of net once more on the day.

The Mocs outshot the Royals 43-21, and totaled 32 ground balls to Queens' 25.

Sorensen led his team with four goals as six other players netted one goal apiece. Goalkeeper Matt Lalli finished the game with eight saves.

Queens will return to action when they host Wingate University on April 4 for Senior Day. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
