Ready leads Queens in win over IUP

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte's Jena Ready netted a season-high six goals today in the Royals' 13-10 win over Indiana University of Pennsylvania (1-3) at Dickson Field. The Royals improved to 6-4 on the season after picking up the non-conference win.

Trailing Ready in goals today was Abigail Paulus who totaled four goals and one assists. Ready also led in draw controls with six, while Sydney Dishman led in ground balls with four. Jasmin Singh and Dishman recorded two caused turnovers apiece also.

The Royals' Nicole Forgione scored the first goal of the day at 23:51 to put Queens ahead, but IUP's Bailey McLeish quickly knotted things up at 23:37. Queens would respond to the challenge offensively scoring five goals in a row to build a 6-1 advantage halfway through the first period. The Crimson Hawk's scoring drought came to an end at 14:14 when McLeish found the back of the net once more on a free-position-shot, and Riley Greenleaf would help cut her team's deficit to three with a goal at 13:40.

Answering with a pair of goals for Queens was Paulus and Ready to increase the home team's lead back out to five in the half, and IUP wouldn't get closer than four points in the remaining minutes of play. At the half, the Royals led 11-5.

IUP's offense came alive in the second half as the Crimson Hawks found the back of the net five consecutive times to cut Queens' lead to one, 11-10, with 17:47 to play. Instead of succumbing to the pressure of IUP's comeback, the Royals stepped up defensively to hold the visitors scoreless for the rest of the game. At 14:41 Paulus scored Queens' first goal of the second half, and Ready would net the final point of the night at 10:15.

The Royals outshot IUP 22-15, and totaled 14 ground balls to IUP's eight.

Kim Hooven led the Crimson Hawks with a hat trick in today's game, while Tara Nicholas and McLeish followed with two goals apiece. Angela Lontoc took the loss in goal after totaling six saves.

Queens is back in action on the road at Lincoln Memorial University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
