Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team (5-4) picked up a 19-2 win today at Dickson Field over Brevard College (0-7) improving to a perfect 3-0 in South Atlantic Conference play. The Tornados fall to 0-4 in the league following the loss.
With all healthy players seeing action on the field today, Queens'
Jena Ready and
Caity Hamilton led with three goals apiece.
Alexandra Bruder,
Becca Chen,
Kelly Dowd and
Maggie Masters each netted two goals in the win, while five others found the back of the net once.
Ready also led the Royals in draw controls totaling six, while four Royals tallied three ground balls each.
Bridgette Larranaga helped lead the defense with three caused turnovers, while goalkeeper
Danielle Horoschak took the win in goal with two saves.
Brittany Larranaga would net Queens' first goal of the game just 27 seconds into play on a feed from
Maggie Masters, and the Royals never looked back as fifteen more unanswered goals followed.
Additionally, Queens' defense was able to hold the Tornados scoreless in the opening half taking a 16-0 lead into the break.
Pulling back offensively in the second, Queens continued to apply defensive pressure on the Tornados not allowing them many possessions on the offensive end after forcing six failed clears in the period. Brevard was able to score in the latter part of the second period when Alyssa Barrett scored at 13:01 after receiving a pass from Allie McMillan. Their second goal would come at 10:55 from Nina Siu.
The Royals outshot Brevard 39-6, and won the ground ball battle, 25-10. Queens also totaled 18 draw controls to Brevard's five.
Queens will complete its three-game home stint on Monday against Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
