Queens takes out Brevard at home

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team (4-4) was able to capture a 20-10 win over Brevard College (4-5) this afternoon improving their South Atlantic Conference record to 3-0. The Tornados fall to 1-3 in league play following the loss.
 
Queens used hot shooting in the opening quarter of today's game putting nine goals on the board to secure their win early over the Tornados.
 
Casey Hock and Garrett Chan led the Royals in points after each totaled six. Hock totaled four goals and two assists, Chan recorded three goals and three assists. JT Thompson also had a good showing scoring four goals and dishing out one assists. Evan Farkas and Justin Kestler each had two goals and one assists, while Patrick Thomas, Mitch Newell, Nick Capriglione and Matt Nehring each scored their first goals of the season.
 
Jonathan Paige dominated the face-off winning 15-of-17 and totaling 10 ground balls. Capriglione also fared well at the faceoff winning 11-of-14. Eric Dolan totaled nine saves in the win.
 
The Royals opened play with four straight goals to quickly jump out to a 4-0 lead with 11:25 on the clock. Brevard's Adam Wiedemann would break up Queens' run with two points of his own, but another 4-0 push followed for the Royals putting the home team ahead 8-2 at 3:35. Both teams scored once more in the period to give the game a 9-3 score at the break.
 
Queens then went on to outscore the Tornados 3-1 in the second period to carry a 12-4 lead into the half.
 
Two goals in the third quarter of action increased Queens' lead to 10, 14-4, but the Tornados closed the period with a pair of goals of their own to cut the lead back to eight, 14-6, heading into the final 15 minutes of play.
 
Back-to-back goals scored by Thompson and Hock in the first minute of the fourth gave Queens a 10-point lead once again, and a goal from Chan at 11:52 put the Royals up 17-6. Brevard would outscore Queens 4-3 in the remaining minutes of play, but the Royals stayed in control of the lead after taking care of business early in the game to secure the win.
 
Queens outshot Brevard 40-29 in today's game, and won the ground ball battle 31-19. Additionally, Queens won 27-of-33 faceoffs.
 
The SAC leader in points, Wiedemann, finished the game with six goals and one assists to lead Brevard. Goalkeeper Andy Reilly totaled 10 saves in the loss.
 
Queens is back in action on the road at Lenoir-Rhyne University on March 18 at 5 p.m.
