Box Score MARIETTA, Ga. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team, ranked No. 10 in the nation, faced-off against the University of Tampa this afternoon at Walton High School in Marietta, Ga. The Royals fell 20-4 to the No. 4 Spartans to open the 2015 campaign at 0-1. The Spartans begin the year at 1-0
After falling behind 3-0 early, Queens'
Evan Farkas put the Royals on the board at 11:01 to make the score 3-1. The Spartans then reeled off three more goals before Farkas was able to net his second of the day. A Spartan goal late in the period would give the game a 7-2 score heading into the second.
Queens' was able to hold Tampa to just two goals in the second period, while notching one themselves from
Casey Hock to make the score 9-3 at the break.
Tampa took over in the third quarter putting eight unanswered goals on the board to extend their lead to 14, 17-3. Three more goals in the fourth, while holding Queens to just one in the final 10 seconds of action secured the win for the Spartans.
Farkas led the Royals with two goals, while
Andrew Titus and Hock each notched one. Matthew DiCarlo led with five ground balls, and
Patrick Thomas led in caused turnovers with two. Jonathain Paige and
Nick Capriglione combined to win 12-of-28 face-offs. Goalkeeper
Eric Dolan tallied eight saves.
Tampa's offense proved to be more active today as the Spartans outshot the Royals 49-19.
Connor Whipple and Chris Vetter of Tampa each recorded five points on three goals and two assists, while Zak Goldbach also tallied a hat trick.
The Royals will get the chance to bounce back on February 14 against No. 3 LIU Post in Severna Park, Md. The game is slated to begin at noon.
