Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team welcomed Coker College to Dickson Field this afternoon defeating the Cobras 17-4. The Royals remain undefeated in South Atlantic Conference play at 2-0, while improving their overall record to 3-1. The Cobras fall to 2-2 on the year and 1-1 in the league.
Queens got off to a hot start scoring five unanswered goals in the first 10 minutes of today's game. They then found the back of the net six more times before Coker's Mackenzie Bar was able to score on a free-position shot with Queens a man-down. The Royals headed in to the locker room leading 11-1 at the break.
Queens would continue its dominant play in the second half outscoring the Cobras 6-3 before the end of regulation.
Kelly Dowd led Queens' offense today with four goals and two assists.
Jena Ready and
Maggie Masters followed with four points apiece. Ready recorded a hat trick and one assist, while Masters notched one goal and three assists.
Abigail Paulus added one goal and two assists, and
Brittany Larranaga and
Alexandra Bruder each scored two goals. Ready also totaled five draw controls.
On defense, Dowd recorded three caused turnovers and
Gabby Farina notched two.
Danielle Horoschak took the win in goal, while
Christine Wiese totaled five saves in 18:24.
The Royals outshot Coker 32-13 this afternoon, and won the battle for ground balls, 18-14. Both teams totaled 11 draw controls each.
Claudia Jenkins led the Cobras with two goals, and Kaitlyn Vela took the loss in the net with seven saves.
Queens is back in action on the road at Belmont Abbey College on March 4. The game is set to begin at 3 p.m.
