Box Score 2 Augusta, Ga. - Queens University of Charlotte softball (1-13) fell in the two game match-up against Georgia Regents (6-2) on Saturday, February 28, 2015. The Jaguars took the series with a 5-3 win in the first game and a 12-4, five inning win in the second.
In the first battle, the Royals reached the board first with
Robyn Levine singling into right field for Lathan to cross the plate. Jaguars followed with five runs in two at bats to shift momentum in their favor. Queens found two more runs, capitalizing on an error before the game concluded.
The Royals had five hits compared to the 11 by Georgia Regents Augusta. Both teams left eight players on base.
Lyndey McCurry (0-2) pitched all six innings for the Royal's and had two strikeouts, one walk and only three earned runs. Paige Deschaine (3-1) came through for the Jaguars with a seven inning game seeing three hits, one earned run and six strikeouts to give them the win.
In the second game, the Jaguars had 14 hits to Queens one, giving Georgia Regents a 12-4 victory.
Queens went through three different pitchers during the five inning game as
Evie Scott,
Catelyn Presley and
Whitley Baker saw time on the mount. Although Scott (0-3) took credit for the loss, she forced two strikes while only give two walks and six hits.
Haley Birkle (4-3) received the win for Georgia Regents pitching 4.1 innings grabbing three strikes, giving up two earned runs, and one hit.
The Jaguars would make it on the scoreboard first with a homerun from Mallory Ferguson and a hit from Hannah Wilson. On the offense side, top of 2
nd, due to wild pitches, both
Abby Lathan and
Venus Gonzalez would put a run on the scoreboard for the Royals.
Robyn Levine and
Kayla Hall would again capitalize on the Jaguars wild pitches at top of the 5
th and would put the last 2 runs on the board for Queens.
The Royals are back in action this weekend, March 6
th- March 8
th, in Raleigh, N.C., playing in the Shaw Tournament where they will be taking on West Virginia Wesleyan College, Gannon University, Chowan University, Mansfield University and Millersville University.
