Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team picked up their first win of the season this afternoon defeating Coker College 11-8 at Dickson Field. The Royals now sit at 1-2 on the season and 1-0 in South Atlantic Conference play, while the Cobras fall to 0-2 on the year and 0-1 in the league.
Evan Farkas led Queens' attack with three goals and two assists, while
Garrett Chan followed with four goals.
JT Thompson added two goals, and
Casey Hock totaled one goal and two assists.
Mike Reed led in ground balls with five and in caused turnovers with three. Goalkeeper
Eric Dolan recorded nine saves in goal for the win.
After just netting one goal in the opening period, the Royals opened things up outscoring Coker 4-1 in the second to head into the locker room ahead 5-1 at the break. Farkas led Queens with a hat trick at the half.
Trailing Queens 8-2 in the third, the Cobras would close the period with two unassisted goals from Josh Wassum and DeShaun Ormond to cut the home team's lead to just four, 8-4, heading into the final 15 minutes of action. However, the Royals were able to jump on the Cobras early in the final period scoring three straight man-up goals to stretch their lead out to seven, 11-4. The Cobras tried to make one final push in the final minutes, but time was on Queens' side as they collected their first win of the season.
Queens dominated at the faceoff winning 15-of-19. Additionally, the Royals totaled six man-up goals.
Coker was led by Wassum who totaled three goals, while John Bretton scored two.
Queens is back at Dickson Field on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Pfeiffer University.
