Queens Falls in SAC Championship Title Match to No. 23 Wingate

Box Score ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team, seeded fourth in the South Atlantic Conference Championship, closed their season this afternoon at 10-8-1 this afternoon after falling 2-0 to second-seeded Wingate University. The Bulldogs, ranked 23rd in the nation now sit at 14-3-3 on the year.
 
The Bulldogs got an early goal and a late goal Sunday afternoon to win its first SAC Tournament title since 2002. This marks the first time the Bulldogs have won the regular season and tournament title in the same year since 1994.
 
The Bulldogs got on the board four minutes into the opening half when Jack Wlodyka chipped a ball in the box towards Jon Ander. The ball was deflected by a Queens defender, getting past the keeper and into the back of the net for an own goal.
 
Following a red card given to Liam Gillesphey of the Bulldogs, Wingate had to play the final 66 minutes of regulation down a man.
 
Despite playing a man down, the Bulldogs added an insurance goal with 16 seconds remaining in regulation, when Charlie Machell found Ander making a run down the left side of the field. He lined one past the keeper into the right corner, giving the SAC Player of the Year his 11th goal this season.
 
Wingate edged Queens, 8-7, today in shots, putting four shots on goal compared to three shots on goal from the Royals. Matt Current completed play in goal with two saves, while SAC Freshman of the Year Pablo Jara of the Bulldogs totaled three saves.
 
Following the game, Queens' Marc-Kevin Schwenk, Corey Brown and Ryan Kawczynski were named to the all-tournament team. Schwenk recorded a goal and an assist in Queens' semifinal win over No. 14 Carson-Newman. Brown totaled two assists in the Royals' quarterfinal win over Anderson, and an assist in the win over the Eagles.
