CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team (10-7-1) will compete for their second South Atlantic Conference Championship title in three years tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Rock Hill, N.C., to take on No. 23 Wingate University (13-3-3).
The Bulldogs completed the regular season grabbing co-regular season championship title along with No. 14 Carson-Newman as both finished with 9-2 records. Wingate was seeded second in tournament play thanks to a loss to the Eagles, while the Royals were seeded fourth after completing conference play at 7-4.
The Royals advanced to the title game knocking off the Eagles in penalty kicks yesterday after playing to a 3-3 draw in regulation. Queens won the PK shootout 5-4 over Carson-Newman to take the win.
Wingate advanced to the title match after defeating Lincoln Memorial College on penalty kicks as well. After playing to a 0-0 tie, the Bulldogs won the PK shootout, 3-1.
The Bulldogs took the win over the Royals during the regular season by a score of 5-0 at Wingate. Jon Ander recorded a hat trick in the win, while Callum Ross and Charlie Machell notched the other two goals. However, that game was played back in September and Queens closed the season on a seven game win streak in conference play. Having not dropped a game since October 14 when they fell 3-1 to No. 1 Pfeiffer University, Queens will look to continue their hot streak against the Bulldogs in tomorrow's title match.
Sunday's game will take place at 1 p.m. at Manchester Meadows.
